The regulation
Hazard information must be visible before the purchase
Under the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, an online offer that lets consumers buy a hazardous substance or mixture without first seeing the label must show the hazard information. The revised CLP Regulation (EU) 2024/2865 makes these distance-selling rules more explicit: pictograms, signal word and hazard statements belong on the product page.

Warning letters and fines
Member states set the penalties. In Germany, missing hazard information is also a target for Abmahnungen under unfair competition law.
Hidden in a PDF is not enough
A safety data sheet download does not replace the hazard information on the offer itself.

Hazard and precautionary statements must be in the official language(s) of the country you sell to.
Manual work per product

Yes, if consumers can buy a hazardous substance or mixture from you without first seeing its label. Your offer then has to state the hazard information — in practice the pictograms, signal word and hazard statements from the label.
Penalties are set by each member state and range from administrative fines to product withdrawals. In Germany, competitors and associations can also send cease-and-desist letters (Abmahnungen), which usually come with legal costs.
Typical examples are cleaning and descaling agents, paints and varnishes, adhesives, solvents, fuels and lamp oils, pool chemicals, fertilisers and plant protection products, and nicotine-containing e-liquids.
No. Finished cosmetic products are exempt from CLP labelling and follow the Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 instead.
The classification of a mixture comes from its supplier and is shown on the label and in the safety data sheet. For substances with a harmonised classification, the plugin can look it up in the ECHA database.
